Abstract

This article examines the positive and negative effects of borrowed words on the French language. While borrowing enriches vocabulary and facilitates communication in a globalized world, it also raises concerns about linguistic purity, potential ambiguity, and the displacement of existing French terms. The analysis explores the historical context of borrowing in French, focusing on the integration process of foreign words and their impact on the language's evolution. It considers both the benefits, such as increased expressiveness and adaptability, and the drawbacks, including the risk of linguistic fragmentation and a decline in the use of native vocabulary. The article concludes by discussing strategies for managing the integration of loanwords while preserving the integrity and richness of the French language.
