Abstract

This article discusses the theoretical foundations of adequacy and communicative compatibility in translation. The concept of adequacy in translation refers to the degree to which the content, style, and purpose of the original text are accurately and completely expressed in the target language. Communicative compatibility, on the other hand, implies ensuring pragmatic and contextual equivalence between the source and target texts. This ensures that the translated text has the same impact on the target audience as the original. This article discusses the main linguistic theories and translation models that support the concepts of adequacy and communicative compatibility. It also analyzes the difficulties and effective strategies in achieving adequacy and communicative compatibility using the example of different text genres.
