Economic Hardship and Educational Management in Nigeria

Abstract

The paper examined the impact of economic hardship on educational management in Nigeria. The paper used secondary data. The secondary data were collected from print and online publications. Content analysis. The paper concluded that economic hardship in Nigeria has led to reduction in the funds available for educational management, retrenchment of teachers in private schools, reduction in students’ enrolment and increment in drop rate, reduction in the training and retraining of teachers and reduction in school revenue generation. Based on this findings, the paper recommends that the government should diversify the economic. Government should provide palliative and social net for the underprivileged Nigerians to improve students’ enrolment to schools. Government should provide special loan facilities for private schools to access without interest to allow them be in operation and not to retrench teachers. Government should increase the budgetary allocation to public schools to allow them operate effectively.
