General Background: The history of Central Asian tribes has significantly influenced the political landscape of the region, shaping the formation and decline of various khanates. Among these, the Yuz tribe played a pivotal role in political and military affairs. Specific Background: Until the 16th century, the Yuz tribe held a dominant position among semi-nomadic Uzbeks. Despite a decline in power in the 18th–19th centuries, the Yuz continued to influence the Kokand Khanate and maintained an independent political presence in Ura-Tyuba. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies on Central Asian political history have primarily focused on major khanates, with limited emphasis on the role of smaller tribal entities like the Yuz. Aims: This study examines the political influence of the Yuz tribe during the 18th–19th centuries, analyzing its relationships with the Bukhara and Kokand Khanates and its role in regional power struggles. Results: Findings indicate that the Yuz tribe effectively maneuvered between rival states, demonstrating political resilience. The tribe's influence persisted through strategic alliances and military engagements, particularly in Ura-Tyuba. Novelty: The study highlights the underexplored impact of the Yuz tribe on the feudal dynamics of Central Asia, challenging conventional narratives that overlook the tribe’s strategic importance. Implications: Understanding the role of the Yuz tribe offers deeper insights into the political fragmentation of Central Asia and the broader implications of tribal governance in shaping regional history.
