Abstract

Purpose: This paper investigates the major challenges hindering effective service delivery in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Method As a position paper, this study employed secondary data obtained through online and print resources. Content analysis was used to select and analyze relevant materials.

Findings: The paper identifies several critical challenges affecting service delivery, including poor funding, staff shortages, inadequate infrastructural facilities, weak supervisory mechanisms, lack of training, corruption, ineffective administration, and brain drain.

Suggestions: To address these challenges, the paper suggests that the Nigerian government increase funding for tertiary institutions through budgetary allocations. Additionally, institutional managers should collaborate with private entities for financial support. Adequate infrastructure should be provided across institutions, with joint participation from both public and private stakeholders. The government should also prioritize the recruitment of additional academic and non-academic staff to support institutional operations.
