Benefit of Digital Literacy for Academic staff and Students of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria

Abstract

This paper discussed the benefits of digital literacy for academic staff and students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The paper is a review paper that depend secondary data. The secondary data were collected from print and online publications. The paper revealed that lecturers that are digital literate can handle teaching and learning digital facilities and they are able to deploy the digital resources to carry out their teaching, research and community services functions. The paper also showed that students with digital skills can use different digital resources to improve their academic performance in the tertiary institutions. Based on this findings, the paper hereby suggests that government, private institutions and tertiary institutions should provide more digital infrastructure facilities in respective institutions. Students should be given training and retraining programme on the use pf digital facilities for learning.
